About Angela

Angela Scott Abdur-Rasheed has devoted her multi-decade career to serving others. The Alabama native works in nonprofit leadership specifically helping level the playing field and bring about equity in education, entrepreneurship, and advancement for BIPOC in Birmingham, AL. She spent over a decade working in the field of Economic Empowerment also leading the America’s Service Commission award-winning Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program igniting national service on a local level for more than 430 AmeriCorps members who served with 56 Birmingham-based nonprofits or programs. Angela is a former TV/radio broadcaster and a marketing, fund development and public relationships pro, who also spent seven years in full-time ministry helping develop need-meeting projects within the congregation and community. In 2023, she officially launched her business The Amplify Agency, LLC using words to amplify lives through training and facilitation, workforce development and books.

With a Telecommunications and Film degree from The University of Alabama and a certification in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from The University of South Florida, Angela is regularly sought to train on topics like recruitment and retention, program management, social justice, media relations, women’s empowerment, etiquette, and workforce development. Angela has served with, trained for, or trained under more than 30 local and national organizations including James Rushton Early Learning Center Board of Directors, American Express Leadership Academy, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, States for Service, Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers, Alabama Power Ignite Conference, Woodlawn High School Academy Board, AmeriCorps, Kaiser Family Foundation, National Association of Workforce Development Professionals, YWCA Junior Board, Oasis Board of Directors, Poynter Institute of Journalism, Heart Gallery of Alabama Board, and Birmingham Society of Human Resources Management. She’s a 2023 graduate of Leadership Birmingham and recognized as one of 2022 Top Women by Birmingham Business Journal.

In her spare time, Angela enjoys time with her husband Aquil and their family, binging HGTV, King of Queens and A Different World, admiring Dolly Parton and writing. She has used her love for words as the author of “Zander Finds a Friend”, “Still Standing”, Oooohhh Girl! You’re Something Special”, “Still a Lady”, “Life Gets Better” and “The Adventures of Abigail Jones: The Family Reunion”. She’s also provided social media content for national companies like Coca-Cola and Coors Light, and as the first publicist for Comedian and National Morning Show Host Rickey Smiley.
